10 Basic Resume Tips

  1. Use Microsoft Word™.
  2. Use a font style and size that’s easy to read.
  3. Use adequate spacing.
  4. Do not crowd or make it busy.
  5. Do not use boxes or borders as this makes it difficult to import into other programs or databases that a recruiter or employer might use.
  6. Limit it to two pages when possible.
  7. Include an e-mail address, phone number and your name and page number on the second sheet.
  8. Indicate the metro area nearest your home. Example: Bradenton, Florida (Metro Tampa)
  9. Make sure all your information is current and correct.
  10. Run a SPELL AND GRAMMAR CHECK! Print your resume before sending to verify blank pages are not being printed.
REMINDER: When responding to a specific job opportunity, reference the job title and location or job code in the subject line of the e-mail.
